The Affinity Federal Credit Union Foundation is proud to support a variety of community organizations. Below is a sampling of the groups with whom we work closely, and descriptions of how the Foundation helps to make a difference.
- Matheny Medical and Education Center: Located in neighboring Peapack, NJ, the Matheny Medical and Education Center is a residential facility for children and adults with multiple disabilities. Affinity contributes to Matheny financially, and is also very actively involved with their signature event, "Miles for Matheny". The Affinity employees who volunteer at this event get to experience firsthand just how well it serves to create a bridge of understanding and friendship between Matheny students and the community. Affinity is also a proud supporter of Matheny's outstanding and culturally creative Arts Access program, and each year the work of a student artist is selected to be the design on our corporate greeting cards. Furthering our outreach, Affinity's employee band, "The Affinity Experience" entertained the students with two afternoon rock concerts over the past year.
- The Midland School: Located in North Branch, NJ, The Midland School is a comprehensive special education program serving the individual social, emotional, academic, and career education needs of children and adults with developmental disabilities. Affinity is a corporate supporter of the Midland Foundation which contributes to the success of Midland programs. Furthering our partnership, Affinity hosts an annual gift shop at our headquarters featuring the students’ arts and crafts. During the summer, Midland students set up a produce stand selling fresh fruit and vegetables to our employees. These endeavors serve as a valuable learning tool for the students as they gain experience interacting with customers and become familiar with handling money and making change.
- Affinity Scholarship Program: The Affinity Scholarship program promotes scholastic excellence and continuing education. It offers both financial aid and merit-based awards to individuals based on overall academic achievement, community involvement, extracurricular activities, demonstrated leadership and an essay composition that best captures these qualities. Our program is open to graduating high school seniors who are members of Affinity.
- Making It Possible to End Homelessness (MIPH): Affinity's foundation and volunteer outreach interact with two MIPH programs – Amandla Crossing, which is a one-year transitional housing program that provides a community setting for homeless, single-parent women and their children, and MIPH's newest program (2007), Irayna Court, a permanent supported housing program for young women ages 18 to 21 who are aging-out of the child welfare system.
- Community Hope - Hope for Veterans: Hope for Veterans is a two-year transitional housing program to help veterans break the cycle of homelessness. In addition to providing our vets with the shelter they need, this program offers employment opportunities and recovery programs in order for them to rebuild their lives. Affinity supports the Hope for Vets Program with monetary donations and facilitates monthly workshops with the veterans covering financial education, credit counseling, and job search and interviewing skills.
- Adult Day Center of Somerset County: The Adult Day Center is a non-profit agency dedicated to providing high quality affordable day care services for disabled and/or elderly residents of Somerset County, NJ. Affinity supports the Adult Day Center monetarily and through social involvement with the clients whom the Center serves.
- Morris County Organization for Hispanic Affairs: MCOHA's activities and programs center on transportation, home weatherization, personal computer training, social services, job counseling, immigration, citizenship, and health education. Additionally, their community outreach serves to represent, counsel, educate, advocate, inform, and provide low-income residents of Morris County (particularly at-risk Hispanic individuals and families) with information, guidance, and the provision of services including comprehensive case management, language interpretation, advocacy, notarizations, and tax preparation. Affinity is proud to support our friends at MCOHA and, as is the case with all our community partners, the foundation's monetary gifts are joined by the heart of Affinity - our employees - who seek many opportunities to volunteer to help our community partner achieve or exceed their objectives.
- Somerset Home for Temporarily Displaced Children: Somerset Homes has been helping vulnerable youth throughout New Jersey since 1970. Their clients represent all socio-economic backgrounds, races and ethnicities, and each year more than 500 young people find the support they need in one of the six Somerset Homes programs. Affinity's foundation and financial literacy program has been working with this highly valued community service organization since September 2007 when we embarked on an intensive financial education program working with ten young men in the Somerset Homes residential program. Based on the engagement of the young men, how eagerly they look forward to attending the interactive classes, and the extent of what they have learned about personal money management, it is clear that this effort has proven highly successful and well worth our commitment. The dedicated team of Affinity facilitators who put much energy and enthusiasm into presenting these classes are making a positive impact on the lives of these young men. The current series will conclude in June, and resume in September with a new ten-month program with another group of Somerset Homes clients.
- St. Clare's Hospital Foundation: Beginning in August 2006, the Foundation has pledged $100,000 over five years for the St. Clare's Hospital Miracles Campaign. These funds will be used to renovate and upgrade technology and facilities across all four campuses of the St. Clare's Health System.
